Portugal Elected Chair of the 65th Session of the UN Commission for Social Development
Portugal was elected Chair of the 65th session of the Commission for Social Development (CSocD65), in an important recognition of the country’s longstanding dedication to advancing social progress, multilateral cooperation, and the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
In its announcement, Portugal emphasized that this election reinforces its strong commitment to multilateralism, underlining the belief that collective action and shared responsibility remain essential to tackling global social challenges and ensuring that development is inclusive and sustainable.
Portugal extended its appreciation to UN Member States for the trust placed in the country to lead this key commission at a time when social development priorities, such as poverty eradication, social protection, employment, and equality, remain central to the international agenda.
The country also expressed its sincere gratitude to the outgoing Chair, Khrystyna Hayovyshyn, acknowledging her leadership and contributions to the Commission’s work.
As Chair of CSocD65, Portugal looks forward to guiding constructive dialogue, fostering consensus, and supporting the adoption of concrete measures that advance the social dimension of sustainable development for all.
