Portugal Elected to the United Nations Security Council for 2027-2028

On June 3rd, was Portugal elected as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council for the 2027-2028 biennium.

This will be Portugal’s fourth term on the Security Council, in a recognition by the UNGA of the country’s credibility, capacity to build bridges between nations, and enduring commitment to dialogue, diplomacy and international cooperation.

During its 2027-2028 mandate, Portugal aims to contribute actively and responsibly to the work of the Council,  while reinforcing the UN’s central role in addressing today’s global challenges and emerging threats to peace and security.
