Youth Employment and the Green Transition: A Global Dialogue for Sustainable Futures
On 30 October 2025, the International Labour Organization (ILO) hosted a high-level event in Geneva to explore how the global energy transition can create new opportunities for youth employment. The session brought together governments, international organizations, youth networks, and civil society to discuss policies and practices that link climate action with job creation.
Key highlights included the Green Jobs for Youth Pact, a collaboration between ILO, UNEP, and UNICEF, and country case studies from Portugal, Brazil, and Indonesia, showcasing innovative strategies for skills development and entrepreneurship. The event emphasized the importance of aligning climate action with social justice, as reflected in initiatives like Just Transitions for All and the Global Initiative on Decent Jobs for Youth.
By fostering partnerships and promoting youth-led innovation, this dialogue aims to tackle the dual challenges of climate change and youth unemployment, paving the way for a more sustainable and inclusive future.
