Portugal Proudly Supports WIMUN 2026 and the Next Generation of Multilateral Leaders

Portugal has expressed its pride in supporting the 2026 World Federation of United Nations Associations International Model United Nations (WIMUN 2026), together with Jamaica, highlighting the crucial role that young people play in shaping the future of global cooperation.

In a world increasingly marked by division and disruption, Portugal emphasized that the young participants of Model UN simulations choose a different path, one rooted in dialogue, negotiation, and consensus-building, the very foundations of effective multilateralism.

This year marks the 80th anniversary of the United Nations, a milestone that comes at a time when the future of the multilateral system faces both urgent challenges and renewed expectations. Portugal stressed that the next generation of diplomats, policymakers, and global leaders will be instrumental in sustaining and strengthening that system.

Portugal also reaffirmed its trust in today’s young leaders, noting that their courage, integrity, and commitment to collective solutions are essential for fostering a more peaceful, just, and cooperative international order.

As Model UN simulations bring together youth from across the globe, Portugal reiterated its belief that nurturing their leadership is an investment in a more resilient and inclusive multilateral future.
