World Portuguese Language Day | 30th anniversary of the CPLP

On the 5th of May, the Community of Portuguese Language Countries (CPLP – Comunidade dos Países de Língua Portuguesa), represented by the Permanent Missions of Angola, Brazil, Cabo Verde, Equatorial Guinea, Mozambique, Portugal, Sao Tome and Principe and Timor-Leste in Geneva, brought together more than three hundred guests to celebrate the World Portuguese Language Day and mark the 30th anniversary of the CPLP.

The celebration featured an unprecedented collaboration with WIPO, which facilitated the visit of four artists as part of the project on Empowering Young Lusophone Musicians in the Era of Music Streaming. This collaboration made it possible to present a show of high artistic quality, highlighting the vitality of Portuguese-speaking cultural creation, clearly evident in the words, rhythms, and melodies of Vinicius Terra (BR), Kady (CV), Toty Sa’med (ANG) and Teresa Landeiro (PT).

The key to this success was the genuine vitality of the Portuguese language and Portuguese-speaking cultures, which, on the evening of 5 May, brought an extraordinary atmosphere to Geneva, thanks to the excellent cooperation between the permanent missions of CPLP Member States.

The Portuguese language was celebrated as a meeting point between peoples, cultures, and ideas, spoken by hundreds of millions of people around the world.
