Portugal recognised on the UN Honour Roll for 2026
Portugal has been formally recognised by the United Nations as one of the very few Member States fully up to date with its financial obligations for 2026, earning a place on the UN’s “honour roll” at the very start of the year.
Following the advance payment of its assessed contribution to the UN regular budget for 2026, amounting to USD 10.5 million, and the settlement of all outstanding balances through returned credits from previous financial periods, Portugal’s financial position with the Organization is fully settled.
As a result, Portugal joins a restricted group of only nine Member States worldwide recognised by the UN Secretariat for their timely and full compliance with assessed contributions. This acknowledgement reflects Portugal’s longstanding commitment to the sound financial management of the Organization and to ensuring the UN’s ability to deliver on its mandates at a time of sustained budgetary pressure.
Portugal’s inclusion on the honour roll underscores its credibility, reliability and sense of responsibility as a Member State, values that guide its candidacy for a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council and its broader engagement within the United Nations system.
