Portugal Begins Observer Role at the UN Security Council
As of today, 1 October 2026, Portugal will participate as an observer on the United Nations Security Council, marking an important step in preparation for its mandate as a non-permanent member for the 2027-2028 term.
Following its election by the UN General Assembly in June, Portugal will closely follow the Council’s work and engage with current members to ensure a smooth transition ahead of taking up its seat on 1 January 2027.
