Portugal Celebrates 70 Years at the United Nations with a Musical Tribute to Luís de Camões

As part of the celebrations of the 70th anniversary of Portugal’s accession to the United Nations, the Embassy of Portugal in Vienna organized on 11th December a recital by pianist Pedro Costa and soprano Raquel Paulo, both Portuguese artists based in Vienna. They presented Portuguese music inspired by poetry of Portugal’s most famous poet, Luís Vaz de Camões, at a time when we also commemorate 500 years since his birth.

14 December 1955 was a particularly meaningful moment for Portugal. It marked a decisive step in our modern history and reaffirmed our country’s lasting commitment to multilateralism, peace, and cooperation. Portugal attaches the highest importance to the United Nations. Multilateralism is a cornerstone of our foreign policy, with the UN at its core. We must all join efforts to strengthen the United Nations and help it deliver even more and better. Portugal stands ready to do its part.
