Portugal at the 43rd UNESCO General Conference: A Strong Voice for Multilateralism

On November 3, 2025, Portugal reaffirmed its commitment to UNESCO’s mission during the 43rd General Conference, held in Samarkand, Uzbekistan.

Represented by Ambassador Rosa Batoréu, Permanent Delegate of Portugal to UNESCO, Portugal emphasized the importance of education, cultural heritage, and scientific cooperation as pillars for sustainable development and peace. In her address, Ambassador Batoréu highlighted Portugal’s dedication to human rights, freedom of expression, and gender equality, aligning with UNESCO’s core values. She stressed the need for strengthened multilateralism to tackle global challenges such as climate change, digital transformation, and cultural diversity, and underscored Portugal’s active role in promoting Education for Sustainable Development and safeguarding intangible cultural heritage, reflecting the nation’s long-standing engagement with UNESCO since 1975.
