UN Peacekeeping Ministerial: Advancing Collective Commitment to Global Peace

New York — 14th May 2025 Álvaro Castelo-Branco

The United Nations Peacekeeping Ministerial, held in Berlin, reaffirmed the international community’s steadfast support for peacekeeping as a cornerstone of global security.

The Secretary of State for Defence, Álvaro Castelo-Branco, reiterated Portugal’s firm commitment and comprehensive support for UN Peacekeeping. In Berlin, Portugal presented substantive national pledges in the areas of capacity-building, “Women, Peace and Security”, and medical, environmental, and police capabilities, in addition to the Quick Reaction Force it maintains in MINUSCA, the UN Peace Mission in the Central African Republic. As global threats intensify, the Ministerial reinforced a clear message: multilateral cooperation remains essential to sustaining peace and stability. Through collective action and renewed commitments, Member States demonstrated that peacekeeping continues to be a vital instrument for upholding the principles of the UN Charter.
