Women in diplomacy

The UN in Geneva inaugurated the 4th edition of the “NotAWomansJob” exhibition, on 24 June 2025, with photographs of women who have distinguished themselves in multilateralism.

Since 25 April 1974, Portugal has been integrating more and more women into diplomacy, and today many national and international leadership positions are held by women.

Portugal contributed to this exhibition with the pictures of two Portuguese women ambassadors: Ambassador Graça Andersen Guimarães, Portugal’s first woman Permanent Representative to the United Nations and Other International Organizations in Geneva; and Ambassador Graça Mira Gomes, the first woman Permanent Representative to the Political and Security Committee of the European union and first woman to head the Portuguese Republic’s Intelligence System.
