Portugal and AOSIS Host Event on Sea Level Rise

On 2 April, Portugal, in partnership with the Alliance of Small Island States (AOSIS), convened a high-level event on Sea Level Rise, bringing together representatives from 26 Small Island Developing States (SIDS).

The meeting provided a platform for substantive dialogue on one of the most pressing global challenges, focusing on legal implications and cooperative approaches to safeguard vulnerable communities.

The event featured an intervention by Patrícia Galvão Teles, Co-Chair of the International Law Commission (ILC) Study Group on Sea Level Rise, who presented an overview of the ILC report on sea-level rise and its legal dimensions. Delegates engaged in constructive discussions on strengthening multilateral responses and ensuring that international law evolves to address the existential risks posed by rising seas.
