UNSC Open Debate on Poverty, Underdevelopment, and Conflict: Portugal Reaffirms Commitment to Peace and Development
On 19 June, the United Nations Security Council held an Open Debate on “Poverty, Underdevelopment, and Conflict”, bringing together Member States to address the critical link between socio-economic fragility and global security. Portugal actively participated in the discussion, stressing that peace and development are inseparable, and warning that poverty, exclusion & environmental degradation fuel conflicts.
In this context, Portugal highlighted the importance of multilateral cooperation and reaffirmed its support for the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development as a cornerstone for global stability. Portugal also committed to conflict prevention, local empowerment, partnerships & climate security.
“Peace must be built guaranteeing human dignity,” the Portuguese Representative said.
